How To Make Coffee Without A Coffee Maker At Home

When you are a coffee lover who simply needs a cup of coffee first thing in the morning, you need to make sure that you have everything you need. However, sometimes, you may need to wake up and discover that your coffee maker isn’t working anymore. So, how to make coffee without a coffee maker?

Even though you may think it’s not possible to get a cup of coffee when you have your coffee maker broken, this isn’t true. In fact, you can even use different methods.

Here are 2 different methods on how to make coffee without a coffee maker:

Method #1: Use A Strainer

Step #1: Heat The Water

Just heat the water using an electric hot pot, the microwave, a saucepan, or a kettle. While a tea kettle may be the best option, as long as the cookware has enough room and water for the coffee you want to make, it should work well. Make sure that you boil the water.

Step #2: Measure The Coffee Grounds Into A Measuring Cup

In case you’re making more than one mug of coffee, make sure that you use the largest liquid measuring cup that you have.

As a rule of thumb, you should use about 1 to 2 tablespoons (15 to 30 ml) of coffee grounds per 1 cup of water (about 250 ml).

Step #3: Pour The Hot Water Over The Coffee Grounds

Now you just need to add the water to the coffee grounds you just placed in the measuring cup. One of the main advantages of this method is that you don’t need any filters. since the water and the coffee grounds can blend.

Step #4: Let The Coffee Steep

Make sure that you wait about 3 minutes to give the time for the coffee to steep. Then, make sure that you stir well and let it be in there for another 3 minutes.

Step #5: Strain The Grounds Out

As you pour the coffee into your mug, you will need to strain the grounds out. The most effective solution is to use a strainer.

Now, just add sugar, cream, or drink it black.

Method #2: Use A Filter

Step #1: Heat The Water

Again, in this method, the first step is to heat the water until it boils.

Step #2: Place The Coffee Grounds Into A Coffee Filter

Unlike with the previous method, you will now need to use a coffee filter. Just make sure that you put the right amount of coffee ground on the filter and then bundle it using a twine or a string. With this method, you need to use, at least, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of coffee grounds per 1 cup of water (250 ml). If you use less coffee, it will be very weak. Leave enough twine or string so you can be able to hang it out of the mug.

Make sure that you make it tight to prevent the coffee grounds to slip through into the liquid.

Please notice that this method is preferable when you are only looking to prepare a single cup of coffee. In case you want to prepare more, you’ll need to use as many filters as the number of coffee cups you want to have.

Step #3: Pour The Water

Now, it’s time to pour the water. Just place your “coffee bag” inside the mug with the twine or string on the outside, and pour the water directly over it to fill.

Step #4: Let Your Coffee Steep

Allow your coffee to steep for about 3 or 4 minutes. The stronger you like your coffee, the more time you should leave it steeping. In case you prefer a cup of weaker coffee, just let it steep for about 2 to 3 minutes.

Step #5: Remove The Filter

Now, you just need to remove the filter (or the coffee bag you made) and enjoy your cup of coffee.
